Lewisham rooms that suit fitted joinery
Lewisham (SE13) is a broad, mixed patch of South East London — Victorian terraces around Ladywell and Hither Green, interwar homes towards Belmont Hill and Lee High Road, and a lot of new-build regeneration clustered around the town centre. Each type asks something different of fitted furniture, so we plan around the property we actually find.
Fitted wardrobes in terrace bedrooms. The typical Lewisham terrace bedroom has a chimney breast and a bay, leaving one or two usable walls. We build wardrobes across the full wall or into the alcoves beside the breast, taking them to ceiling height so storage goes up rather than eating into the floor of what are often modest rooms. Top-floor and loft rooms get panels scribed to the slope.
Alcove and media joinery in reception rooms. Front rooms keep the standard chimney-breast alcoves, usually uneven side to side, which we template individually. Most briefs pair closed base cabinets with open shelving above, and increasingly a low media run to keep the living space feeling calm rather than cluttered.
Storage for new-build flats. The regeneration flats near the town centre are square and well-proportioned but short on built-in storage. We add full-height wardrobes and slim hallway cupboards, fixing back to the stud framing these buildings use so the pieces are properly secure.
One area, several install plans
Because SE13 spans period terraces, solid-walled interwar houses and modern flats, the installation plan changes even when the piece looks similar. Old terraces need scribe allowances for walls that have moved; flats need components sized for lifts, corridors and stud-wall fixings. We check the room, the route in and the wall build-up at survey so the finished work fits cleanly either way.
