Greenwich rooms and constraints
Greenwich is one of our wider-coverage postcodes and the work itself is some of the most rewarding: Georgian terraces with proportions and ceiling heights that justify proper bespoke joinery, and clients who tend to be working on multi-room renovations rather than a single piece.
Georgian terrace master bedrooms. West Greenwich Georgian terraces have characteristic high ceilings (often 3.2m+ in the principal bedroom), original cornicing and sash windows. Wardrobe briefs here are typically full-height bespoke runs that use the ceiling height and scribe to the cornice — Pax wouldn’t get within 800mm of the ceiling and wouldn’t handle the moulding. The Greenwich painted shaker wardrobe is a typical example.
Alcove units in front reception rooms. Greenwich Georgian terraces often have grand front reception rooms with original mantels and pair of recesses. Alcove units here tend to be more proportionally elegant than the East London equivalents — often shallower depth, more refined door styling (in-frame shaker is common), and frequently with glazed display sections above closed cabinets below.
Bespoke kitchens in mid-renovation houses. A significant chunk of our Greenwich work is bespoke kitchens for clients in mid- or post-renovation. Greenwich has an unusually high proportion of clients who are doing whole-house renovation projects with a kitchen as a key piece; we’re occasionally brought in for the kitchen + integrated joinery in adjoining rooms as a single piece of work.
Listed buildings and the Greenwich World Heritage Site
Large parts of West Greenwich and the immediate surrounds of the Maritime Greenwich World Heritage Site contain Grade II listed buildings. Internal alterations on a listed building — including bespoke joinery — require Listed Building Consent. We can advise on what’s likely to be approved and can work alongside the conservation officer’s requirements (no fixing into original mouldings, demountable installations where required), but the consent process adds 6–8 weeks to the project timeline. Plan for it.
Adjacencies we cover
We also cover Blackheath (SE3) and Charlton (SE7) directly to the east, and Deptford (SE8) directly to the west.
