New Cross rooms that suit fitted joinery
New Cross is a mixed patch: hilltop Victorian terraces around the Telegraph Hill streets, tighter terraces and former HMOs near Goldsmiths being turned back into family homes, and a scattering of ex-industrial and warehouse conversions off New Cross Road. The joinery brief shifts a lot depending on which you’re in.
Fitted wardrobes in Telegraph Hill terraces. The larger houses up the hill — around Hatcham Park Road and the streets off it — have well-proportioned bedrooms, often 3.3-3.6m wide, sometimes with original picture rails we work the wardrobe height around. Because these are older, tall houses, rear bedrooms over the back addition usually have a sloping ceiling that we scribe each panel to individually.
Storage for former HMOs returning to family use. A lot of New Cross stock was split into student lets and is now being reconverted. These houses often have odd leftover partitions and blocked-up doorways, so the useful work is fitted wardrobes and alcove cupboards that quietly regularise a room — squaring off a wall that’s no longer plumb after years of changes.
Media and desk joinery for conversion flats. The warehouse and ex-industrial flats have big volumes but few sensible walls, so we build combined runs — media wall into home-office desk into shelving — that give a home somewhere to work from one place without breaking up the open space. Exposed brick and steel mean we plan fixings around what’s actually structural.

New Cross sits in Lewisham and gets busy around Goldsmiths and the main road. The borough operates controlled parking zones across much of the area, so a visitor permit is usually needed for install days — we’ll flag when to arrange it. The hillier Telegraph Hill streets can be steep and narrow for the van, which we factor into the delivery plan.
