Leyton rooms that suit fitted joinery
Leyton has two dominant housing types — Victorian / Edwardian terraces along streets like Francis Road and Norlington Road, and newer infill developments at the Lea Bridge end. We work in both.
Victorian terrace bedrooms. Standard 3.5m-wide upstairs master bedroom, picture rail at 1.8m, ceiling around 2.8m. The brief is typically a wardrobe run on the wall opposite the bay window. Sometimes the brief stretches to a combined piece — wardrobe + media + vanity in one continuous run. The Leyton combined wardrobe-media unit is exactly that pattern.
Loft conversion bedrooms. Lots of Leyton terraces converted their lofts in the 2015–2022 boom, adding a master bedroom in the roof space. These bedrooms have sloping ceilings on both sides and short knee walls (900–1100mm tall) that hide useful storage behind them. We build wardrobes with scribed top edges that follow the slope, plus eaves storage that runs along the knee wall as separate cupboards.
Galley-kitchen joinery. Leyton flats often have narrow galley kitchens — 2.1m wide, 4m long. The walls aren’t usually long enough for a proper bespoke kitchen (we’d send those projects to Howdens for value), but they’re long enough for a bespoke dresser-style hutch with open shelves and base storage at one end of the run.
Loft conversion specifics
For loft-bedroom joinery, two things matter that flat-floor jobs don’t: the slope angle (steeper means more dead space behind the knee wall, which we can build into) and the ventilation rating of the loft conversion (if it’s a cold-roof design, eaves storage needs vents in the cabinet doors; warm-roof is unrestricted).
We can usually tell which one your conversion is from the building-control sign-off paperwork, or from the underside of the slope above the knee wall — exposed insulation between rafters is cold-roof, plastered finish over insulation is warm-roof.
