Wandsworth rooms and constraints
Wandsworth is one of our wider-coverage areas in south-west London, taking in Battersea, Balham, Wandsworth Town, Tooting and Putney. The housing is mostly Victorian terraces — the well-known streets “between the commons” — alongside Edwardian mansion flats near Clapham Junction and the period houses of Putney.
Terrace bedroom wardrobes. The Victorian terraces here have the chimney-breast-and-recess bedroom layout and ceiling heights we work with constantly. Fitted wardrobes are usually built into the recesses or along the party wall, full height where the ceiling allows, scribed to the picture rail and skirting.
Alcove units in through-lounges. A lot of Wandsworth terraces have had the two reception rooms knocked into a single through-lounge, which leaves chimney breasts and recesses at both ends. Alcove units here are often designed as a matching pair across the room — low cabinets with open shelving above, or balanced full-height cupboards.
Storage for mansion flats. The Edwardian mansion blocks around Clapham Junction and Battersea have high ceilings and original detail but limited built-in storage. A good share of our Wandsworth work is wardrobes and built-in cupboards designed for those flats, built in sections that come up the communal stairs and scribed to the room.
Conservation areas and listed buildings
Wandsworth has conservation areas across Battersea, Wandsworth Common, Putney and the streets around Clapham Junction, with listed buildings among the older houses near the river and the commons. Conservation designation mainly governs the exterior, so indoor joinery is normally unaffected. Where a house is individually listed, internal alterations require Listed Building Consent; we work within those constraints and plan the timeline around obtaining consent before workshop work begins.
Adjacencies we cover
Wandsworth anchors part of our south-west London coverage. We also reach Battersea, Balham and Putney (SW11, SW12, SW15) directly, and Tooting (SW17), with Merton to the south — see our Merton joinery page for the Wimbledon and Merton Park side of the area.
