Homerton rooms that suit fitted joinery
Homerton (E9) has a genuinely mixed housing stock — Victorian terraces around Chatsworth Road and Daubeney Road, ex-council blocks near the hospital, and newer developments running out towards the marshes. The joinery brief changes with the property type, so we plan each one around the room we actually find.
Fitted wardrobes in terrace bedrooms. The classic Homerton bedroom is compact, often with a chimney breast eating into one wall. We build wardrobes across the remaining full wall or into the alcoves beside the breast, using full ceiling height so the storage goes up rather than out — important in rooms where floor space is at a premium.
Alcove units in Victorian reception rooms. Front rooms here keep the standard chimney-breast layout, with alcoves that are frequently uneven side to side. Most briefs are low closed cabinets with open shelving above, keeping the original fireplace as the focal point while adding the storage the room lacks.
Under-stairs and media storage. Terrace hallways in E9 almost always have a wedge of dead space under the stairs, and it’s some of the most valuable storage in the house once it’s built out properly. Alongside that, low media runs for open-plan living areas are a regular ask.
One patch, several property types
Because Homerton spans Victorian houses, solid-walled council-era flats and modern builds within a few streets of each other, the survey matters more than usual. Old terraces need scribe allowances for walls that have shifted; the newer and council-era rooms are typically truer but have tighter access routes and stricter rules on fixings. We check the room, the route in and the wall build-up before anything is cut.
