Lower Clapton joinery briefs
Lower Clapton has many of the same building types as Clapton more generally, but the day-to-day briefs are often tighter: conversion-flat bedrooms, narrow halls, front-room alcoves and storage that has to work around existing doors, fireplaces and leasehold constraints.
Conversion-flat wardrobes. Many Lower Clapton flats use former reception rooms as bedrooms. They keep the ceiling height and period proportions, but the usable wall space can be compromised by doors, chimney breasts or radiators. We normally design one or two full-height wardrobe bays rather than a long run.
Alcove units beside original fireplaces. Front rooms near Chatsworth Road and Lower Clapton Road often still have the chimney breast and two uneven alcoves. Painted shaker cupboards with shelves above are the common brief, though full-height closed storage works when the room needs to feel calmer.
Small-space storage. Hallway cupboards, shoe storage and utility cupboards are common where flats do not have separate storage rooms. The useful detail is usually depth: shallow enough to keep circulation clear, deep enough for coats, shoes or cleaning kit.
