The Wood Green rooms we know well
Wood Green’s housing is a real mix: Edwardian terraces on the streets rising toward Alexandra Palace, purpose-built mansion blocks and converted flats along Green Lanes, and ex-council and new-build apartments clustered around the shopping city and High Road. We build differently for each, but all three benefit from fitted storage.
Fitted wardrobes in Edwardian bedrooms. The terraces climbing toward Alexandra Palace have generous front bedrooms — often 3.4m wide with a bay and a ceiling near 2.8m. The standard brief is a full-height wardrobe run opposite the bay, sometimes wrapping a return wall. Where the loft’s been converted, we add scribed wardrobes and eaves storage under the slope.
Alcove units and shelving in converted flats. Many Green Lanes and Bounds Green Road properties are now flats carved out of larger houses, which leaves odd part-rooms and half-alcoves. We measure each recess individually and build alcove cupboards and shelving that make sense of the leftover geometry rather than fighting it.
Apartment and maisonette storage. In the newer and ex-council flats around the High Road and Station Road, the priority is squeezing usable storage from square, plain rooms — wardrobes built tight to a 2.4m ceiling, slim hallway cupboards, and utility joinery around the boiler.
A mixed and hilly area
Wood Green rises noticeably toward Alexandra Palace, and the housing changes street by street, so we don’t assume a standard room. Converted flats in particular throw up part-height ceilings, boxed-in risers and alcoves that aren’t a matching pair, all of which we measure at survey and design around. Access for the mansion blocks and newer apartments — stairs, lift size, loading — we check before booking.
