Local questions

Joinery in Mile End: what people ask

We've a period house near Tredegar Square with very tall ceilings — how do you use that height?
Tall is an advantage. Around Tredegar Square and Coborn Road ceilings often run 2.9-3.2m, so we build floor-to-ceiling wardrobes with a top box above the hanging rail for luggage and seasonal storage. These older walls are rarely true, so we scribe the stiles to the plaster rather than trusting a straight edge.
Can you fit wardrobes in a concrete ex-council flat off Burdett Road?
Yes. The estate flats have lower ceilings, around 2.4m, and blockwork or concrete walls, so we plan fixings for masonry rather than timber studs and keep the depth shallow — 300-450mm wardrobes and slimline hallway cupboards that add storage without crowding a small room.
Our Mile End flat is up several floors with a shared lift — is that a problem?
Not usually. For canal-side conversions and newer blocks we build in sections sized to fit the goods lift and confirm the loading bay and lift booking before the survey. Access planning is the main detail, not distance, and we sort it early so install day runs smoothly.
